The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is a new animated fantasy film that hits US theaters later this month. The film takes place before the events of director Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and the voice cast includes Brian Cox as Helm Hammerhand, Gaia Wise as Hera, Luke Pasqualino as Wolf, Miranda Otto as Eowyn, and more.

What is The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim?

The official synopsis reads: “Set 183 years before the events recorded in the original trilogy, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim tells the fate of the family of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan.” “A surprise attack by Wolf, the clever and ruthless lord of Dunlending who seeks revenge for his father’s death, forces Helm and his people to make a bold last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg – a great fortress that would later become known as Helm’s Deep. Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, she must… Hera, daughter of Helm, must muster the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy bent on their complete destruction.

The voice cast also includes Lauren Ashburn, Yazdan Kafouri, Benjamin Wainwright, Lawrence Oppong-Williams, Sean Dooley, Michael Wildman, Judd Akwodeke, Bilal Hasna, and Janine Duvitsky.

Kenji Kamiyama is directing the film, while Geoffrey Addis, Will Matthews, Phoebe Gittens, and Artie Papageorgiou wrote the screenplay based on a story by Addis, Matthews, and Philippa Bowens.

The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim will be released in US theaters on December 13, 2024, from Warner Bros. Pictures.
