the Scary movie The reboot that was announced earlier this year is officially getting some help from the franchise’s original creators as the Wayans brothers return to write the new project.
In a recent Instagram post, Marlon Wayans shared a photo of himself and the parody version of the killer Ghostface from the Scary Movie franchise. In the post, the Wayans said that the Wayans brothers will be returning to the series, and that they are “looking forward to having fun on the big screen again.” In an official statement to Deadline regarding the news, Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Wayans all said they are looking forward to getting back to work.
“We couldn’t be more excited to be part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again,” the brothers said in a statement. “This is a franchise we created over 20 years ago. We remember the people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring those laughs to theaters, where they belong. It’s a double reunion.”
The Wayans Brothers have been an integral part of the Scary Movie franchise since its inception. The 2000 original film was directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans, and written by Sean and Marlon, along with Buddy Johnson, Phil Bowman, Jason Friedberg, and Aaron Seltzer. Kenen would also direct the sequel in 2001, with Sean and Marlon starring in addition to the first.
What do we know about the new horror movie?
As of now, there is no information on whether or not the film will see any cast members reprising their roles from the original film set. Four of the five original Scary Movie films starred Anna Faris and Regina Hall, with Marlon and Shawn Wayans also appearing in two of the five films.
The first Scary Movie premiered in 2000, and was a parody film that parodies a variety of films, including Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. The franchise grew rapidly, with a sequel in 2001, a third film in 2003, a fourth in 2006, and finally a fifth in 2013, which featured a mostly new cast.
Scary Movie was a huge success during its initial run, grossing over $890 million at the worldwide box office. The success of the films also unleashed a large wave of parody films poking fun at other genres, with films such as Superhero Movie, Meet the Spartans, Epic Movie, and more.
