Lionsgate has confirmed this Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz Will meet for Sharp todayDirected by Marc Webb, the film is moving into production. This project marks another collaboration between the popular actors, known for their on-screen chemistry in previous projects. Lionsgate announced that the film, backed by a team of experienced producers, will launch international sales at the upcoming US Film Market.

Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz will star in Lionsgate’s thriller Day Drinker, directed by Marc Webb. This film marks their fourth collaboration after Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Murder on the Orient Express. Lionsgate announced the project on October 28, 2024, with plans to launch international sales on the American Film Market (AFM).

Day Drinker is about a cruise ship waiter who encounters a mysterious day drinker, leading both characters into a criminal underworld with unexpected connections. The script, written by Zach Dean, whose credits include The Tomorrow War and Fast X, is intended to showcase elements of action and suspense. The production team includes Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk, Erika Lee and Adam Kolbrenner. The film is produced by 30West.

Adam Fogelson, president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, described Day Drinker as a film that “combines a highly commercial concept with outrageous twists and turns set in an incredible world” in a statement. Chelsea Kugawa will oversee the project for Lionsgate, while Dan Friedman negotiated deals for the studio.

Day Drinker is Johnny Depp’s first major studio project since his legal proceedings with Amber Heard. His last studio role was in Fantastic Beasts. Penelope Cruz, most recently seen in Michael Mann’s Ferrari and soon to appear in The Bride, continues to add notable projects to her filmography. Lionsgate and 30West also recently collaborated on Power Ballad, starring Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas.
