Pia breaks her silence about her beef with Cardi B.
The rapper recently spoke with Hot 97’s Nessa ahead of the release of her new album Bianca To discuss how her feud with Cardi came to be and talk about her song “Pretty & Petty.”
Pia says she wasn’t thinking about Cardi B when recording her new album, Bianca.
“Why would I do that? I don’t care enough about anyone to get up and dedicate my life to saying, ‘Oh, let me get to it.'” “No, no way bro, this is crazy,” she admitted near the 16-minute mark in the video linked above.
Pia revealed that she had “moments” in the studio where she considered responding to Cardi in music but ultimately decided that would be a “disservice” to the hard work she and her collaborators put into the project, which includes Tyler ICU, Khalil Harrison, Becky G, and Young Miko.
“I can always address it afterward. Like, I can always drop it, not drop it…but I feel like it’s a little less than me because that was a year ago for me,” she added. “And now this album has been released [Oct. 10] Either way, whether you insulted me or not.
Pia says she’s not bothered by Cardi B’s song “Pretty & Petty,” and she’s ready to get into the booth with her.
“I was like, ‘Okay, I’m glad she felt like she was coming out of this,'” Pia said of Cardi’s song from her new album. Am I drama? “I knew it was coming because, like, that’s what rap is. I’m competitive, like: I fault you, you fault me, but you fault me, I fault you… We know the reasons and why it all happened, so, it’s part of the game, right, you know? It doesn’t make me feel any other way but like, it’s not right. Like there’s things like, and what am I supposed to do? Keep rapping with Pardison [Fontaine]? You know I should let this go.
She added, “If she wants to go live or want to get in the booth with me in real life, like rap and do it for real? … I’ll do it because I write on the spot.”
Pia says her issues with Cardi B started after she allegedly copied her creative ideas.
the Bianca The rapper explained that tensions began to rise with Cardi when she felt like her creative ideas were being taken away.
“That was the only thing it was about for me,” she told Nessa, noting the similarities between her album, Really herAnd Cardi’s single “Enough,” which Pia admits fans brought to her attention.
“People try to say, ‘Oh, she re-did a Missy Elliott song.’ I didn’t care because [“She’s a Bitch”]“This is a song that everyone turns on, so for me the similarities were in the creativity because I’m not a machine,” Bea explained, noting that it is a “one band show” with a small cast, and “a smaller budget on a smaller platform.”
Pia also claims that she “can belt out five songs [Cardi] I did.” However, she insists she wasn’t interested in escalating things.
“I could have sex with you again, but it’s like, ‘Girl, enjoy your pregnancy, you know what I’m saying? Go enjoy your pregnancy,'” she said. “I don’t want to bother you again, say something that’s going to hurt your feelings, make me sound like a ‘bad guy’ because I’m talking about someone who has a kid. Like, no, that’s not the energy I have, you know? Like, I don’t want that to come back to me. My mom didn’t raise me to pay a pregnant lady. It’s over.”
Pia suggests a truce with Cardi B isn’t possible.
When Nessa asked if the two rappers could get to “a place where you guys can have a conversation,” Pia recalled a heated phone call where Cardi described her as “screaming like 15 times back to back” and that “respect is out the window.”
“I don’t care to be friends with people like that,” Bea said. “For example, I don’t care about being on good terms with people who record conversations and phone calls, or who tell stories to sell music. I don’t do that… My goal is to be here, put my goodness into the world, do community philanthropy, make great music, touch people and move forward.”
Pia says she doesn’t regret releasing her Cardi Diss song, “SUE MEEE?” She denies that she spoke ill of her children.
“No, I didn’t feel bad because I didn’t lie,” Bea explained.
She also clarified that she did not insult Cardi’s children, Kulture and Wave, saying, “I didn’t talk negatively about her kids. I talked about them negatively, but I used their names because that’s what rap is. It’s a play on words, it’s a metaphor.”
“Even if those weren’t her kids’ names, those tapes would still have worked, so like: OK, I noticed. That’s the only part I see, but we see when people talk about people’s kids online all week — that wasn’t it. So for [her] To try to spin that and say, ‘Oh, she was talking about my kids,’ I wasn’t talking about her kids…I just wanted to make that clear.”
Pia says she’s not worried about the beef overshadowing her music.
“Even though she wanted to hurt me with that situation, it just helped me because people look at her and they’re like, ‘Okay, what’s up with this girl,’ or like, ‘What’s her music?’ What are her five songs?
“So I don’t have any hate in my heart, like, I’m not mad about the situation. Like I said, that’s part of the game like. This is you rapping on me, I rapping about you and it goes on.”
Pia thinks Cardi B is a “great mom.”
Trying to find a “positive note” in the conversation, Nessa asked Bea if there was anything nice she could say about her rival.
“I think she’s a great mother,” Pia admitted. “I celebrate women who are great mothers. I had a great mother. Like, my mom was that girl, she was a strong woman. She was a hard-working woman, but she also, you know, didn’t take anything… I’ve never been involved in rap in the last 10 to 15 years. This is the only rap beef I’ve ever been involved in.”
“I’m friends with a lot of girls, so this is out of the ordinary for me. But I stand in the business when it comes to my art because that’s all that matters to me. And that’s what I’m here for. If I don’t do that, what kind of artist is going to get me out there when I’m out there writing everything, slaving everything, slaving people, working with producers? I’m creating there from scratch.”
