Commons English Squid game series From David Fincher is gaining some steam, with Deadline recently reporting that the project could be next.
In a recent report, Deadline reported that Fincher is working on the project, having joined its development. The report notes that while the Fight Club director could still shoot a picture now and then, the Squid Game series is “most likely” he will be working on throughout 2025.
This isn’t the first time reports of Netflix’s English Squid game have surfaced. Last year, it was also reported that Fincher was expected to take the helm of the project.
What do we know about the English Squid Game series?
Previous reports from Jeff Sneider of The InSneider indicated that Netflix was interested in doing an American version of the show, though Sneider noted that he didn’t know what a US version of Squid Game would look like. However, he mentioned that some audiences’ insistence on not watching foreign films is another thing that might make Netflix inclined to remake the series.
Fincher’s most recent work includes the 2023 action thriller The Killer for Netflix, as well as 2020’s Mank, which was also a Netflix project.
Squid Game hails from writer-director Hwang Dong-hyuk, best known for his work in South Korean films such as The Fortress, Miss Granny, and Silenced. The film revolves around a group of 456 cash-strapped gamers who accept a strange invitation to compete in children’s games on a remote island in hopes of winning 456 billion won. However, they soon discover that the prize comes with deadly high risks.
Season 2 of the hit Netflix series is scheduled to premiere on December 26, 2024.
