Charles Schwab (SCHW) announced Wednesday that it plans to expand its 24-hour trading, becoming the latest brokerage to embrace 24-hour markets.

Select Schwab clients will be able to trade all S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 stocks, as well as hundreds of exchange-traded funds (ETFs), anytime Monday through Friday. The company will gradually expand capacity to all customers in 2025. Schwab clients can currently trade about two dozen ETFs in the overnight session.

“Our goal has always been to deliver and expand access to 24/7 trading in a responsible manner that takes into account client demand, the evolving dynamics of the overnight trading market, and most importantly – to provide clients with a complete library of Schwab educational content,” said James Kostoulias. The company’s managing director and head of trading services, in a statement: “And 24-hour support to help them balance opportunities and risks, as well as the unique considerations of overnight trading.”

In recent years, brokerages and exchanges alike have sought to capitalize on the exceptional performance of the US stock market by pushing for extended trading days. Robinhood (HOOD) launched its 24-hour market last year, and has since expanded the list of stocks and ETFs that investors can trade at midnight.

InterContinental Exchange (ICE), the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange, said last week that it plans to extend trading on its digital platform to 22 hours a day, a decision that executives say “underscores the strength of our U.S. capital markets and the growing demand for our securities.” Listed worldwide.
