Showtime has officially announced Agency The latest spy thriller, starring Academy Award nominee Michael Fassbender, has been renewed for a second season. This comes after the successful series debuted last November 29, garnering 5.1 million viewers around the world, making it the first new series to be broadcast on Showtime to date.

The series revolves around Martian, a secret CIA agent, who is ordered to abandon his secret life and return to the London station. When the love he left behind reappears, romance is reignited. His career, true identity, and mission are at odds with his heart. “Throwing them into a deadly game of international intrigue and espionage.”

What did Showtime’s CEO say about the agency’s second season renewal?

Chris McCarthy, CEO of Paramount and Showtime, praised the agency’s cast and crew for their amazing achievement in viewership.

“The agency’s success is proof that our new Showtime slate is poised to propel Paramount+ into its next phase of growth,” McCarthy said in a statement (via THR). “This achievement is a testament to the creative strength of the team he leads [executive producers] “George Clooney, Jez Butterworth, Joe Wright, David Glaser and a fantastic cast including Michael Fassbender, Richard Gere, Jodie Turner-Smith and Jeffrey Wright.”

The agency is based on the popular French drama Le Bureau des Legendes. Additional cast members include Katherine Waterston, John Magaro, Alex Reznick, Andrew Brooke, Harriet Sansom Harris, India Fowler, Sora Lightfoot-Lyon, Reza Boroujerdi, and Richard Gere. Additional cast includes Adam Nagaitis, Ambreen Razia, Bilal Hasna, David Harewood, Kurt Ejiawan, Ray BLK, Sabrina Wu, and Tom Vaughan Lawlor.

The series is written and executive produced by Jez and John Henry Butterworth, with Joe Wright directing the first two episodes. It is executive produced by Wright, Fassbender, George Clooney, Keith Cox, Nina L. Diaz, David C. Glaser, Ron Burkle, David Hotkin, Bob Yari, Grant Heslov, Alex Berger, Ashley Stern, and Pascal Britton. They are the writers and executive producers. Joe Wright is the executive producer and director of the first two episodes.
