Derrick Groves, the last inmate to escape from the Orleans Parish Justice Center in May, was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon after a standoff with police in Atlanta, Georgia, authorities confirmed.

Law enforcement resources WWL said That officers surrounded a home in southwest Atlanta after receiving a tip that Groves might be inside. Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams also released a statement regarding the arrest: “Today, we confirmed that escaped inmate Derrick Groves has been arrested in Atlanta, Georgia – following a standoff at a southwest Atlanta residence – after nearly five months on the run following his escape from the custody of the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office on May 16, 2025.”
