A major update in a long development period Gundam film It arrived, with Deadline reporting that the project had officially hired a director to work on the film, which is now no longer involved with Netflix.
Who is the director of Gundam movie?
Jim Mickle, best known as the director of the Netflix series Sweet Tooth, is set to write and direct the upcoming project. Almost everything about the film is unknown yet, but Deadline reported that the film plans to begin production in 2025.
Along with the news that a director has been found for the Gundam movie, Deadline also reports that Netflix and the film’s previous director are no longer involved. Previously, a live-action Gundam film adaptation of Legendary was in the works, with Netflix and director Jordan Vogt-Roberts reportedly being in contact dating back to 2021.
However, Deadline reports that neither party is anymore involved in the film, so it’s unclear whether or not Legendary has teamed up with someone else, or will release the film in theaters instead.
The Gundam series is one of the most popular anime series in history. Gundam was first created in 1979 by Hajime Yatate and Yoshiyuki Tomino, and largely follows the story of various military groups using giant mobile suits (partly known as Gundam) to fight against each other.
The franchise has gone on to spawn over 50 television series, various films, OVAs, manga, novels, video games, and an entire line of plastic model kits known as Gunpla, which has dominated the Japanese toy market since its inception. Gundam is also largely viewed as the beginning and definition of the “mecha anime” genre, known for its mechanical or robotic characters.
