Golden Globe winner Idris Elba has officially signed on for the lead role in the upcoming action thriller Hammer down. The project hails from Black Bear and famed producer Charles Roven (Oppenheimer).
Elba’s most recent project was reprising his role as Knuckles in the Paramount spin-off series of the same name. He will once again lend his voice to the character in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie. Besides Hammer Down, the famous actor is also currently attached to star in the action-comedy Heads of State with John Cena, the survival thriller Above The Below, and the adult animated comedy Overhauled with Kathryn Hahn.
What is Hammer Down about?
“Mac (Elba) is the best at what he does, driving a large truck across the country with a ‘no questions asked’ policy about the goods he transports,” the official synopsis reads. “When he takes his headstrong teenage daughter with him for a job, they are tracked down and attacked by a relentless group of criminals who will stop at nothing to secure the shipment they have been assigned to deliver. Pursued by ruthless killers and with the police on their way, they must… Mac and his daughter work together to prevent the shipment from falling into dangerous hands and survive to live another day.
Hammer Down will be written and directed by Simon Hatt based on his short film. Hutt was previously James Gunn’s assistant and went on to become a producer on Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy. In addition to leading the cast, Elba is also producing alongside Jenna Summers and Madison Werriter.
