Squid gameOne of Netflix’s most-watched TV shows of all time has set a new viewership record ahead of its Season 2 premiere.
The South Korean survival thriller premiered on Netflix on September 17, 2021, and has since become one of the streaming network’s most popular TV series. Centered around the titular game, a total of 456 players fight for their lives for a chance to win a massive cash prize of ¥45.6 billion. It stars Lee Jung-jae, Wi Ha-joon, Jung Ho-yeon, Park Hae-soo, and more.
A recent report from diverse It revealed that Season 1 of Squid Game has managed to garner a total of 330 million and over 2.8 billion viewing hours since its premiere, resulting in a staggering 60% increase in viewership ahead of the highly anticipated Season 2 premiere.
When will Season 2 of Squid Game come out?
Squid Game Season 2 will premiere globally on Netflix on December 26, 2024, with Lee returning once again as the survivor of the last game, Seong Gi-hun. Other returning cast members include Wi, Gong Yoo, and Lee Byung-hun. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who won Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series at the 74th Emmys, returns to direct the second season as well.
They will be joined by new cast members Yim Si Wan (Strangers From Hell), Kang Ha Neul (Midnight Runner), Park Gyu Young (Sweet Home), Lee Jin Ok (Dear Hyeri), Park Sung Hoon (The Glory), and Yang Dong Jeon (Ruler of Your Own World), Kang I-sim (Open the Door), Choi Seung-hyun (Taza: The Hidden Card), and singer Jo.
