Mufasa: The Lion King Director Barry Jenkins says all-digital filmmaking isn’t for him.
Mufasa: The Lion King will be released in US theaters later this month. Directed by Jenkins, the live-action animated film serves as a prequel to 2019’s The Lion King.
Talk to eagleJenkins hinted that Mufasa: The Lion King might be the last time he attempts all-digital filmmaking.
What did Barry Jenkins say about all-digital filmmaking?
“It’s none of my business,” he said. “I want to work the other way again, where I want to get everything physically there. I always think what is here is enough, please let me know what chemistry is needed to make chemistry? How can these people, this light, this environment, come together to create an image that is poignant, beautiful, and creates text that is deep, dense, and rich enough to speak to someone?
Before Mufasa: The Lion King, Jenkins directed 2008’s Melancholy, 2016’s Oscar-winning Moonlight, and 2018’s If Beale Street Could Talk.
“Exploring the unlikely rise of the beloved king of the Pride Lands, Mufasa: The Lion King enlists Berviki to convey the legend of Mufasa to the young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa bringing their own signature style.” Reads the summary. “Told in flashbacks, the story presents Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka – the heir to the royal line. A chance encounter sets off an expansive journey for an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny – their bonds will be tested as they work together to avoid… A menacing and deadly enemy.
Mufasa: The Lion King hits U.S. theaters on December 20, 2024 from Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
