Moana 2 Continues to Sail, Y2K Bombs

Moana 2 continues to lead at the box office.

per Delivery timeMoana 2 grossed an additional $52 million at the domestic box office this weekend. Once again, beating out Wicked (which grossed $34.8 million) and Gladiator II (which grossed $12.4 million), Disney’s animated sequel has now grossed nearly $300 million.

A24’s Y2K, meanwhile, failed to find a strong audience in cinemas. Directed by Kyle Mooney and starring Rachel Ziegler, the film grossed $2.1 million during its opening weekend. It was made for less than $15 million.

Next weekend will be an interesting one, as The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim and Kraven the Hunter will open in US theaters, while Luca Guadagnino’s Queer will get a wider release. September 5, Oscar nominees Nickle Boys and The Last Showgirl will also open in limited release.
