Netflix’s Narnia Producer Reveals When Filming Starts for Greta Gerwig’s Movie

Greta Gerwig She is one of the most talented and distinguished filmmakers of her generation. She has received four Academy Award nominations for her last three films, and her most recent, Barbie (2023), has even grossed more than $1.4 billion at the global box office. Accordingly, fans became excited when it was announced that she would be writing and directing multiple film adaptations of The Chronicles of Narnia Book series by C.S. Lewis for Netflix. Now, Amy Pascal, one of the producers of this huge project, has revealed the start of filming for the first film.

Amy Pascal reveals that Greta Gerwig’s Narnia will begin filming in July 2025

Pascal revealed in a recent interview that a “very new” and “rock ‘n’ roll” Greta Gerwig film set in Narnia will begin production in July 2025.

It was first reported in July 2023 that Netflix had hired Gerwig to lead and write the scripts for two Narnia films. This means that the first film will begin filming exactly two years after its initial announcement. The streaming giant originally acquired the rights to develop Narnia in 2018.

While talking to Pete Hammond, Delivery timeAwards columnist Pascal spoke about “a couple” of Netflix projects she’s currently been a part of, including Narnia. She explained that the film was not in production before revealing a start date of July 2025. She also stressed that Gerwig’s adaptation of Lewis’ classic book series was a “very fresh story,” adding: “It’s all about rock and roll.”

Pascal previously worked with Gerwig on the 2019 adaptation of Little Women. Speaking about Gerwig as a filmmaker, the Challengers producer said, “I remember the first day I met her. She barged into my office and said, ‘Little women have made a mistake. And I know how to do it right. And it’s all about money and women.'” Pascal noted. Gerwig had not yet made Lady Bird at that time.

“And it is,” Pascal continued [Gerwig] He said: I will write and address this to you. So I said, “Okay!” Because sometimes you know.” She later confirmed: “There’s no one like Greta.”

Notably, another Netflix production Pascal is in is Noah Baumbach’s Jay Kelly, featuring George Clooney and Adam Sandler. Pascal confirmed that filming has finished on this project, and it will be released sometime in 2025.
