“In the beginning there was blood.” It’s time to return to the world of Dexter Morgan, first brought to screen by… Michael C. Hallwho once again lends his voice to the killer’s inner monologue in the Paramount+ prequel series Dexter: Original Sin. In the series that started it all, Dexter was bonded with his adoptive father, Harry Morgan, (played by… Christian Slater in original sin), through his reliance on Harry’s “Code,” a set of rules that would allow Dexter to channel his murderous urges into what would become a career in the Miami Police Department. And now the fans will see Organic farming‘s Patrick Gibson When young Dexter first puts these rules to the test.

in original sinwe’re introduced to all-new faces portraying familiar characters from the first series, including Dexter’s sister, Debra Morgan, now played by Molly Brown (evil), Angel Batista, played by James Martinez (Love, Victor), Maria LaGuerta, who played her Christina Milian (Meet me next Christmas), and Vince Masuoka, who plays him Alex Shimizu (black list). In addition to the characters we first met in 2006, original sin brings Patrick Dempsey (Gray’s Anatomy) on board as Captain Aaron Spencer and Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as Dexter’s boss, Tanya Martin.

While at CCXP in Brazil, Collider’s Steve Weintraub Meet the show’s main trio, Slater, Gibson and Brown, to find out more about what fans of the original series can expect. During their conversation, they discuss what it’s like playing established characters in a beloved universe, the reception to the con, the infamous icon, and how the prequel deals with the big bads compared to Ayman (2006). For OG fans, anyone wondering if the show is offering new material, in Brown’s own words, “as a fan, there are questions I didn’t even realize I was answering.”

These characters can’t be killed (sort of).

“I will never die.”

Collider: As actors, you never know where the party is going to go. What’s it like to sign on to something like this, where you know that as long as the show is on the air, you have a job? You cannot be killed.

Molly Brown: Well, one of us can. Sorry! [Laughs]

Christian Slater: That’s right. This is correct.

But he will still be there, just not in the living world.

Slater: Right. In a similar way as you did before. Look, I’m used to it. I can do that.

BROWN: It’s really nice to know that I’m not going to die. I will never die.

Patrick Gibson: Yeah, that’s good. Because it’s always a possibility. We will live for at least Six more seasons.

Slater: That’s right. Some keep coming back. Nobody at all truly He dies on TV.

Gibson: Kind of. Sometimes they do.

Slater: The only chef from South Park. This is the only death I’ve seen that was pretty much guaranteed.

BROWN: It always was. “We’re done,” they said.

Slater: He’s not coming back.

The prequel series arrives on Paramount+ with Showtime on December 13.

I’m curious about you both, this is your first time getting lead roles in a show. What the hell is it like the night before the first day of filming when you know, “Oh my God, I’m finally going to get this gig?” And it is Ayman .

Brown: Crazy. Not even just the day before. I found out I got it while I was in Paris, and it was an absolutely surreal experience on the Eras Tour. [Laughs] I mean it was absolutely crazy. It’s a show I’ve loved for a long time, and it’s just crazy. It was crazy when we walked out in San Diego to see a packed room — I was worried it would be empty. I thought to myself: “Oh my God, they put us in such a big room.” What if there are four people, and they are other people from our crew? I was so afraid that no one would care. It was an amazing experience to watch people get so excited about us without seeing a single second of footage.

Gibson: We hadn’t finished filming yet. We were still shooting.

BROWN: We barely shot any beats.

Slater: But there was already a lot of excitement and enthusiasm. These are Michael C. Hall and Clyde Phillips. This is the world they built and created, and yes, it’s great to be a part of it.

Gibson: The audition process was very long and kind of exhausting, and we had gone through a lot of iterations of who Dexter was at the time, and it was really nice to know then that we had done all that, and starting to prepare, I felt like we had set a solid foundation for what we were trying to do. . I think that took some pressure off. clearly, Stepping into your first leadership role in something so beloved is a very daunting task.

BROWN: Stepping into your first lead role is when you’re playing established characters. It was so funny, I didn’t feel nervous about it until the day I got ready. And all of a sudden, I said, “Jesus Christ, this is what we’re doing. Oh my God.”

The main villain of the first season of “Dexter: Original Sin” is “Bad Motherf**ker.”

One of the things about the original series is that it’s almost like the villain of the season, where they go towards, “Who’s this big bad?” So far, from what I’ve seen, he’s almost like a villain of the week. Is this pretty much Season 1?

GIBSON: I think we get both, don’t we? You have the friends that Dexter makes along the way and then gets rid of, and they serve as a springboard from where he learns. It’s as if each of them is teaching him a lesson that will then help him take down the great evil in the end. So, it goes across the line. I’m not sure if you got there in episode 2, but you started to see…

Brown: Hints of the Great Evil.

Slater: Someone needs to stop him.

Gibson: He’s a bad bastard.

What do you think fans will say after they watch the finale?

Gibson: “Awesome!”

Slater: “Dammit!” [Laughs]

Gibson: “impossible“.

Slater: “Oh my God, I didn’t expect this to happen. What a development!

GIBSON: I remember reading that in Miami and literally saying, “No way.” I think this is satisfactory.

Slater: I think the whole season.

Fans of the original series will not be disappointed

“There are questions I didn’t realize I had the answers to.”

The thing about a show like this is that it’s going to get a second season. I am very confident that you will do more.

BROWN: You know what I’m going to say? I think there’s a lot of little things along the way that the end will be amazing, but you’ll see how the routine that Dexter learned was learned. You will see a lot of little things that you did not know and that you want to know.

Slater: The code.

Brown: Yes. You will see many things.

Slater: Things that happened to Harry in the past.

Brown: As a fan, there are questions I didn’t realize I had to answer.

Gibson: I think they did a really good job. It’s like we’ve seen a lot of Dexter’s past in flashbacks, and they’ve really done a great job of weaving in a lot of stories that support and reinforce the canon that was already in the cracks that we have.

Slater: A lot was established in the original show. To go back and continue to connect it all…

Gibson: It’s a crazy mixture.

BROWN: Jennifer Carpenter is 5’9″. She should grow six inches. It’s crazy! It’s a great accomplishment. [Laughs] The process has already begun.

Slater: Dilation and surgery.
