2024 was a banner year in food trends. In their home kitchens, people were making fried eggs, eating whole cucumbers, eating thick bean salads, drizzling soy sauce on ice cream, baking French fries, and often downing one trend when the next caught on.
One trend that has not faded is the candy bar called the Dubai Chocolate Bar.
What is Dubai chocolate?
TikTok star María Vihera introduced Dubai chocolate to her followers by filming a video of herself enjoying the ‘Can’t Get Knafeh of It’ chocolate bar, created by Dubai-based company Fix Dessert Chocolatier. Her viewers were wowed by her $25 milk chocolate bar, which had a green filling of crunchy kunafa (shredded pastry made of cheese and sweet syrup), pistachios, and tahini.
The popularity of this bar has skyrocketed, landing it in fifth place in Google’s recently released General Search, which revealed the top food and drink searches of 2024. While recipes that try to imitate the candy bar have appeared online, they take time long. Labor intensive to make.
For those of us who prefer homemade desserts that don’t require much effort, like three-ingredient peanut butter cookies or two-ingredient faux chocolate mousse, a Dubai-inspired chocolate bar seems out of reach. That is until Lindt decided to create her own version.
New Lindt Limited Edition Dubai Chocolate
In addition to launching the White Chocolate Cinnamon Truffle this holiday season, Lindt will be presenting its offering at the Dubai Chocolate Bar. But don’t expect to find them at your local grocery store, as the limited-edition bars will only be available at Lindt retail stores — and for one day only: Thursday, December 12.
Your best chance to get one is at the Lindt New York Empire State Shop in Manhattan, starting at 9 a.m. until bars go on sale for $14.99. There will also be a limited number available at select Lindt Chocolate stores across the US, although Lindt did not provide a list of those locations.
Lindt describes its version of the viral therapy as a “can’t-miss trial.” The bar features Lindt’s signature melt-in-your-mouth milk chocolate filled with peanut butter, qatayef (crispy pastry strips) and tahini.
Can’t find a Lindt chocolate bar in Dubai?
Given the hype, don’t be surprised if these rods end up being resold on eBay for exorbitant prices. After $4 Trader Joe’s mini handbags sold for $250 on eBay after a sale, it became clear that ubiquitous items in short supply are fetching exorbitant prices.
But, if you missed it, think twice before hitting the “buy” button on a resale site. When Lindt was asked on Instagram if these bars would be sold in regular stores, he replied: “We are currently evaluating the opportunity to make Lindt Dubai chocolate more widely available.”
Our guess? If these chocolates sell out quickly, Lindt may start taking this opportunity seriously — and much sooner than expected.
