What did Jennifer Love Hewitt say about the ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ reboot?
Speaking with ComingSoon in a recent interview, Hewitt was asked about a planned reboot of the series, which recently began production. Hewitt revealed that she hasn’t actually signed on to the project yet, but they are “close,” and she’s excited to return to the role of Julie James.
“So, the interesting thing is that I haven’t signed an official contract yet, but we are close,” Hewitt said. “We’ve been trying to figure out a lot with the 9-1-1 schedule. It’s been a little difficult. But the idea of going back to Julie James is really exciting to me. It’s scary. I think on a personal level I’m like, ‘What are people going to think about me?’ “The 45-year-old version of Julie James?” I think I’m a woman and a human being, and that part of it makes me a little nervous. But to play her again would be an honor. I think I’m excited to show or see what she’s been doing and how she’s changed, and what she still holds on to from that The infamous night is on The way.
Hewitt also thanked fans for keeping the horror film popular, and recounted how her children recently watched the film. She said watching the film now was a “wild” experience.
“It’s so crazy. Yeah. The movie just turned 27, and I’m also only 27, and that’s what I call myself now,” Hewitt said. “Yes, it’s great. My kids watched it for the first time and it was wild. My older kids are sitting with them and their friends watching a movie and seeing myself at 18 and looking exactly like my daughter, which is crazy. They loved it. I loved that fan base. I love that people are still rooting for this movie. It was a big moment for me in my life. It was my first time starring in a movie when I was 18 years old. It definitely has a special place in my heart.
Scheduled to hit theaters on July 18, 2025, I Know What You Did Last Summer 3 is directed by Jennifer Caitin Robinson from a screenplay she co-wrote with Sam Lansky, Jeff Howard, and Leah McKendrick. It is produced by Neal Moritz. At present, additional details about the plot remain confidential.
