Production is now underway Black phone 2.
The Black Phone is a 2021 supernatural horror film directed and co-written by Scott Derrickson (Sinister, Doctor Strange). Starring Ethan Hawke as The Grabber, the film grossed approximately $161.4 million at the global box office from an estimated budget of $16-18 million.
Universal officially announced that a sequel to The Black Phone is in development in October 2023. The film was originally scheduled to hit theaters in June 2025, although it was delayed by nearly four months until October.
Now, Derrickson has announced that filming has officially begun on The Black Phone 2. He shared a behind-the-scenes photo on Xwhich can be viewed below, giving fans a first glimpse at the logo for the upcoming horror sequel.
What else do we know about the Black Phone 2?
Hawke will reprise his role in The Black Phone 2. Also returning are Mason Thames as Vinnie, Madeleine McGraw as Gwen, Jeremy Davies as Terrence, and Miguel Moura as Robin. Demián Bichir also joined the cast.
C. Robert Cargill again wrote the script for The Black Phone 2 alongside Derrickson. Official plot details remain under wraps at this time.
“Vinnie Shaw, a shy but intelligent 13-year-old boy, is kidnapped by a sadistic killer and locked in a soundproof basement where screaming is no use,” the official synopsis reads. When a separate phone on the wall starts ringing, Vinny discovers he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. They are hell-bent on making sure what happened to them doesn’t happen to Vinny.
Black Phone 2 will be released in US theaters on October 17, 2025, from Universal Pictures. Meanwhile, The Black Phone is currently streaming on Starz.
