Stephen King He is a legendary writer who has dealt with every type of publishing medium you can think of. The “King of Horror” has written novels, short stories, novellas, screenplays, comic strips, articles, and more. On Halloween this year, the American author decided to release his first written animated short film which you can now watch for free.
In 1968, Stephen King published his short story “Here There Be Tygers” in Ubris magazine before becoming part of the Skeleton Crew in 1985. As a special Halloween treat, Dark Corners Films released King’s short story as an animated film adaptation titled Lily. Back in 2019, Night Frizz Productions created a direct-to-female short film, “Here There Be Tygers,” directed by King. However, this is the first animated version of the horror short and King’s first writing for animation.

“Lily” is about a third grader who discovers a scary tiger hiding in the boy’s bathroom. The hand-drawn animation by animator Pete Scalizitti is in black and white with striking greens and reds to emphasize the compelling themes of the 10-minute short. Kate Siegel, known for starring in her husband Mike Flanagan’s projects, not only directed the animated short that provides the voices of all the characters. Families will enjoy Lily as an excellent animated short for Halloween, offering stunning images and lessons in compassion.

For 2025, Neon has taken over Stephen King’s short story “The Monkey” under the supervision of Osgood Perkins from Longlegs. Theo James will play twins Hal and Bill who discover their father’s old monkey toy causing horrific deaths. Additionally, the dystopian novel The Running Man, previously adapted in 1987 starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, will be getting a remake. With the 2025 remake starring Glen Powell this time, the dystopian action film will follow a reality TV show contestant who must survive killers to make money.
Since Stephen King has volumes of books on his bibliography waiting to be adapted, we know we can count on the award-winning novelist to continue bringing new horror stories to the big and small screen.
