Anthony Mackie Details Sam Wilsons Evolution as a Superhero

Anthony Mackie thinks Sam Wilson will be a much different superhero in the future Captain America: Brave New Worldand recently detailed the character’s growth.

What did Anthony Mackie say about Sam Wilson?

While speaking at the Disney APAC Content Expo in Brazil (via Deadline), Mackie talked about the growth his character has seen over the course of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When it comes to how Wilson takes on the mantle of Captain America, Mackie believes he’ll retain a lot of who he was before.

“Sam’s evolution is simple. He’s still a counselor,” Mackey said. “He’s still serving soldiers, but at the same time, he’s now a leader of his community in the country.”

Mackie also noted that without any super soldier serum inside him, Wilson will have to be more careful in how he handles things, and be smarter in fighting enemies.

“It’s completely different with the serum, you can fight anyone,” Mackey said. “When you don’t have the serum, you have to be smart and design different ways to defeat [enemies]. Since Sam is a consultant, he uses his brain more than his brawn. He uses his wits more than his fists. “He’s more of a friend to everyone.”

In addition to Mackie, Brave New World is set to star Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres/Falcon, and Harrison Ford as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, aka Red Hulk. Ross’s character was previously played by William Hurt in the MCU; However, Hurt died in March 2022.

The cast also includes Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Giancarlo Esposito as Seth Voelker/Sidewinder, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, and Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns/Commander.

“Anthony Mackie returns as flying hero Sam Wilson, who has officially taken up the mantle of Captain America,” the film’s synopsis reads. After meeting with newly elected US President Thaddeus Ross, Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident. He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global conspiracy before the true mastermind can make the entire world see red.

Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World will be released in US theaters on February 14, 2025.
