Dumb and Dumber co-director Bobby Farrelly has signed on to helm the upcoming teen ensemble comedy titled, Ed the driver. The film hails from Outer Banks co-creator Jonas Pate, who developed the original screenplay by Thomas Moffett with Jennifer Pate.

This marks Farrelly’s latest solo directorial project following 2023’s Heroes starring Woody Harrelson and the recently released Christmas comedy Dear Santa starring Jack Black. He is also currently attached to a live-action family holiday comedy film at Amazon MGM Studios titled Sporkinfeesten.

What is driving education about?

“The film focuses on teens who steal their school driver’s car to go on a road trip to help a high school student track down and get his college student girlfriend back,” the initial synopsis reads (via Delivery time).

Driver’s Ed is produced by Jonas Pate, Jennifer Pate and David Stone, with AGC Studio’s Stuart Ford and Aggie Koh serving as executive producers. In addition to directing, Farrelly will also serve as executive producer alongside Scott Lambert (The Killer’s Game, Tár). Production on the project is expected to begin in early 2025 in North Carolina. At the moment, casting is still currently underway for the teen comedy.

“When Al Batts and David Stone brought us this incredibly charming script, we immediately saw the film’s potential to please audiences of all ages,” Ford said in a statement. “Having a director with Bobby’s incredible commercial track record on board puts Driver’s Ed on a really exciting path toward production early next year.”
