Superman DCU: Test Screenings Begin, Gunn Praises Corenswet

Superman will be released in U.S. theaters in 2025. The first official feature film set within the DCU from Gunn and Peter Safran, Superman stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent while Rachel Brosnahan stars as Lois Lane.

Speaking with the outlet, Gunn said he thinks Corensweet will “scare everyone with how great it is” when the film hits theaters next July.

“Honestly, from the bottom of my heart, David Corenswet is going to scare everyone with how good he is,” Gunn said. “He’s one of the best actors I’ve ever worked with, and he can do it all. The guy is unbelievable.”

Along with Corensweet and Brosnahan, Superman stars Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Schumacher, María Gabriela de Faria as Angela Spica/The Engineer, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, and Pruitt Taylor Vince In the role of Jonathan Kent. Neva Howell as Martha Kent, Isabella Merced as Hawkgirl, Eddie Gates as Michael Holt/Mr. Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Bec Bennett as Steve Lombard, Michaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Christopher MacDonald as Ron Troup, and more.

Superman will be released in US theaters on July 11, 2025, from Warner Bros. Pictures. It takes place in the first chapter of the DCU, titled “Gods and Monsters.”

The DCU officially launches tomorrow with the two-episode premiere of Creature Commandos on Max. Peacemaker Season 2 will follow Superman in August 2025, while the release date of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is set for June 26, 2026. Gunn has previously said that the Lanterns movie will likely premiere around the same time as Supergirl.
