Singer Hayley Kiyoko to Direct Girls Like Girls Movie for Focus Features

Singer-songwriter Hayley Kiyoko (Lemonade Mouth) has partnered with Focus Features to adapt the upcoming film for Girls like girlsbased on her 2015 hit song and music video of the same name. The project will mark Kiyoko’s feature film directorial and screenwriting debut.

Who is in Girls Like Girls?

Kiyoko will direct Girls Like Girls from a script she will co-write with Stephanie Scott. The latter is one of the frontmen of the Girls Like Girls music video, which currently has 157 million views on YouTube. The video also starred Yellowstone vets Kelsey Asbell and Hayden Thompson. The film will follow “the universal story of falling in love for the first time, and learning to accept yourself along the way.”

The film is produced by Marc Platt, Katie MacNicol, Adam Siegel, De Best, Michael Phillippe, Jason Mooring, and Richard Alan Reed, with Michelle Mumblezer set to oversee the project on behalf of Focus Features. Before turning the song into a movie, Kyoko also published the novel Girls Like Girls in 2023. The coming-of-age novel reached number one on the New York Times bestseller list, and also won a Goldie Award for Young Adults. Adult Fiction by the Golden Crown Literary Society.
